Loick Essien: I.D Mixtape Review
British R&B singer Loick Essien has made a name for himself in the U.K. with the release of several singles including my favorites of his, Me Without You, Stuttering and Love Drunk. The singer has been releasing singles from his debut album for the past two years, but has been mishandled by his label with delays coming often for the album. This 12 track release from the singer includes features from the U.K’s finest like Chip, Wretch 32, Tinchy Stryder and Bashy among many others. Although this mixtape isn’t the best music I have heard from Loick, it showcases his authentic R&B sound and wide vocal ability and is overall a solid release although it falls short compared to Loick’s earlier releases.
I.D contains the left overs from Loick Essien’s long-awaited debut album Identity. The album has been pushed back multiple times so hopefully now that Loick took things into his own hands by releasing this mixtape his label will finally release the album. The mixtape has one track which misses completely, the highly auto tuned Money. The rest of the mixtape is decent at worst in my opinion although the majority of the songs are only solid. The project is a solid effort which although it is nothing too special or anything as good as his previous releases is still a decent release from the singer. I Love You.com sounds good, but isn’t that good lyrically although usually the lyrics from Loick are good with the exception of this song. The project mostly has very good features from everyone who appears on the mixtape with Loick at his best on songs which show off his vocals on an authentic R&B song. I.D is a good release from Loick Essien which hopefully influences his label to finally release his debut album.
I.D is a decent mixtape from Loick Essien which showcases his authentic R&B sound and wide vocal range and keeps me anticipating the debut album from the singer once it finally is released. The latest project from Loick Essien gets a light 3 stars.
My Top 5 Tracks: All Around The World, Young Fly & Reckless, Tell Your Friends, Put It Down, Welcome Back
