Artist Profile: Example


Genre: Electro House, Hip Hop

Example is a British singer and rapper who makes electro dance music. In January of 2012, Example signed a U.S. record deal with Mercury, a brand of Universal Records. With his fourth studio album Example hops to crack America on his own terms, which is according to him “without a verse from Pitbull”. Example will be collaborating with many famous producers including Laidback Luke and Diplo on his fourth album. The lead single for is fourth album is yet to be released but is produced by Calvin Harris and is titled Coming Back.

His third studio album debuted at number one in the U.K. album chart and was acclaimed by fans. Expect to hear Example’s name more in the near future due to his ability to combine different genres together such as dance, house, electro and rap.

Artist Profile: Kendrick Lamar

Genre: Hip Hop

Kendrick Lamar is a rapper from Compton, California who is considered by many to be the leader of the new generation of southern rap and hip-hop in general. Kendrick gained acclamation for his Overly Dedicated mixtape and his independent album Section 80, which ranked as one of the top hip-hop albums of 2011. Lamar has gained a large internet following as well as acclaim from artists Dr. Dre, Drake, Game, Pharell and Snoop Dogg.

Lamar is part of the rap group Black Hippy and is influenced heavily by N.W.A. Kendrick has worked on many songs with Dr. Dre on the “upcoming” Detox album and was named by Snoop Dogg, Game and Dr. Dre as the “New King Of The West Coast”. Lamar was featured on the 2011 XXL freshman cover and has been featured on Drake’s Take Care and Game’s R.E.D. Album in 2011. Kendrick’s upcoming album Good Kid In A Bad City will be his label debut under Aftermath and Interscope records. The lead single to the album is titled The Recipe and features Dr. Dre. Lamar’s lyrical skill is frequently compared to that of Tupac and he is praised for his poetic lyricism and is labeled by many as the savior of hip hop.

Kendrick Lamar was an A student growing up in Compton, who abstained from gang violence and drugs in a city where both were prevalent. Growing up he watched his idols Tupac and Dr. Dre rise to fame in the same city as him which inspired him as a rapper. Lamar is one of the top rising rappers and should rise to the forefront of the entire music scene in the coming years much as Tupac and Dre did before him. Expectations are high for this up and coming rapper whose future looks extremely bright with the sky as the limit.

Artist Profile: Talay Riley

Genre: R&B

Talay Riley is a British R&B singer and songwriter. Talay has already written hits for artists Chip and Tinie Tempah and is currently writing for Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, One Direction, Justin Bieber and Christina Aguilera’s upcoming releases.

Talay has only released one mixtape himself, and is currently in the midst of working on his first album. With his first mixtape Talay has shown his ability to make catchy songs. Once he releases his first album I expect Talay to gain popularity worldwide (just as Taio Cruz did) and have his own hit songs as he has written in the past for others.

Artist Profile: Chip

Genre: Hip Hop

U.K. rapper “Chip” (formally “Chipmunk”) is attempting to break the U.S. With two successful albums in the U.K., Chip has now signed with T.I.’s record label, Grand Hustle. Chip is attempting to break the U.S. along with other British artists who have gained success in the U.S. such as Jessie J. and Tinie Tempah. Chip has 5 top 10 hits in the U.K. along with a debut album that charted at number two and received many awards all before reaching his 20′s. You may already know Chip from his song Champion Ft. Chris Brown which was featured in the game Madden 12.

Chip is currently working on a mixtape London Boy, to be released in spring of this year. Rumor has it a large number of our own American superstars, such as T.I., B.o.B, Meek Mill, Chris Brown, Nelly and Busta Rhymes among many others are set to be featured on the mixtape. Chip has already worked with the likes of Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Keri Hilson on his previous album Transition.

Chip gained popularity in the U.K. in the genre of grime with a radio freestyle and transitioned to pop-rap with his debut album. With his sophomore release Chip transitioned to rap with the album Transition. Expect to hear Chip’s name more in the coming months as he attempts to break the U.S. starting with the London Boy mixtape.
