Trey Songz: Chapter V Album Review

To purchase the fifth album from R&B singer Trey Songz click on the image above.

Chapter V is the fifth studio album from R&B singer Trey Songz with the album showing why Songz is one of the main faces of R&B music. While other R&B stars such as Usher, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo have taken a turn towards electronica pop R&B music on their most recent albums, for the most part Trey Songz stays true to his R&B roots with few exceptions on this project.

With Chapter V the evolution of Trey Songz as an artist from his past albums can be seen along with the gain of new fans which Songz has seen due in part to gaining more of a “mainstream” artist. While Songz does shift towards these new fans on some tracks, for the most part Songz remains true to his R&B roots on this album. Songz shows off his versatility to different audiences throughout this album with club ready songs Hail Mary, Check Me Out and 2 Reasons all the way to ballads which he wears his heart on his sleeve on like in Heart Attack, Dive In and Simply Amazing. The majority of the album though is compromised of straight up R&B with Songz impressive vocals seeming somewhat effortless throughout the album which is extemely impressive. Although the album runs a little long at nineteen songs this is because with Chapter V the R&B singer caters to all different audiences with an album which has songs for all different types of Trey Songz fans. Trey Songz shows off his versatility and why he is one of the faces of R&B with his fifth studio album which is another very good album from the singer.

With his fifth studio album Trey Songz has released another very good R&B album which shows why he’s one of the top R&B artists in the music scene. Chapter V is another good album R&B from Trey Songz which has multiple hit songs and gets a strong 3 1/2 stars.

Circa Survive: Violent Waves Album Review

Violent Waves from alternative rock band Circa Survive will be released on August 28th on iTunes, so click on the image above to purchase the album.

Violent Waves is the fourth studio album from indie rock band Circa Survive and is the first album to come from the group without a record label. The indie rock group wanted to create an album which captured the band’s live sound which is where they feel the magic of the band lies so the album was recorded and produced entirely by the group in just one week.

Without the restraints which come from being a part of a major record label Circa Survive have released their most ambitious to date on an album which fuses together some of the best elements from their first three albums. Lead singer Anthony Green’s vocals shine on this album where he is pushed to his dynamic limits over atmospheric tracks filled with emotion which allow his vocals to excel. The album is filled with tempo changes like on Sharp Practice and the atmospheric dream-like Suitcase. Guitar riffs match well with Green’s raspy delivery on songs like Phantasmagoria and Bird Sounds which were two of my favorite tracks from the album and showcase Circa’s ability to match Green’s vocals to great production filled with guitar riffs. On The Lottery guest vocalist Geoff Rickly creates a dynamic sound which contrasts well with the vocals of Green on a great chorus. The intimate Think Of Me When They Sound displays the diverse sound which Circa Survive creates on the group’s fourth album which is an overall great diverse and ambitious project from the group.

With indie rock group Circa Survive’s first album without the assistance of a record label the group delivers an album which is their most ambitious and cohesive project to date. Violent Waves is a great album from Circa Survive which gets 4 1/2 stars.

My Top 5 Tracks: Bird Sounds, Phantasmagoria, Brother Song, Think Of Me When They Sound, Suitcase

Zak Waters is generally unknown, but this song shows why he deserves to be more well-known with a light-hearted visual to his single Skinny Dipping In The Deep End.

Alternative rock band Band Of Horses deliver the visual to the lead single from their upcoming album Mirage Rock. The visual takes the viewer through a fast paced trip in the woods with some great visuals.

This Week In Music: 8/26/2012

The weekly recap for this week in music is a day late for the final week of August due to me starting college this past week, which has also delayed me from putting up album reviews for new albums from Circa Survive, Trey Songz and Slaughterhouse as well as reviewing a few mixtapes. This week I should be able to get up at least a few of those reviews as I get into a routine though so be on the lookout for reviews of those three albums on the site in the next day or two. This week was a busy week in music which saw a single from Jay-Z protegé Rita Ora which wasn’t even worth posting and new singles from Band Of Horses, All Time Low, Game, Muse, Leona Lewis and Faith Evans just to name a few. Check out my top 5 songs from this week below as well as my best of this month.

Taryn Manning: Send Me Your Love

Send Me Your Love was initially supposed to be an alternative rock song from actress/singer Taryn Manning, but after getting advice from some DJ’s to make it into a house track the singer agreed and the resulting house track sounds great with an infectious beat and very good vocals.

Listen to Send Me Your Love Below and if you like the song, buy it on beatport by clicking here.

Wiz Khalifa: Work Hard Play Hard Remix Ft. Young Jeezy & Lil Wayne

With only a few weeks to go until Wiz Khalifa releases his sophomore album O.N.I.F.C. the rapper has recruited Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy for the official remix of his hit single Work Hard Play Hard. The remix was released to hold over fans during the few week delay which the album has seen and has a good verse from Young Jeezy although Lil Wayne dissapoints once again with his verse on the song. I have not heard a good verse from Lil Wayne since he announced skateboarding is now his number one priority so it will be interesting to see how the rapper’s upcoming mixtape pans out.

Trey Songz: So Sophisticated Remix

Trey Songz just released his album Chapter V and he has now decided to have some fun with a freestyle over MMG’s So Sophisticated which features Trey’s usual bragging rap style.

Nitty Scott MC: Flower Child Ft. Kendrick Lamar

Flower Child is the latest leak to come from Brooklyn female rapper Nitty Scott MC’s upcoming project The Boombox Diaries Vol. 1. Based off this track Nitty Scott MC sounds like one of the best female rappers out there as she manages to shine on this track with some really good laid back verses as well as managing not to be outshined by Kendrick Lamar on the song.
