Rick Ross: God Forgives, I Don’t Album Review

God Forgives, I Don’t will be released on July 31st from rapper Rick Ross on iTunes so click on the image above to purchase the album.

God Forgives, I Don’t is the fifth studio album from rapper Rick Ross and is set to be released on July 31st. Ross has proclaimed this album a masterpiece, an all time classic and the best album he has ever released, but he fails to deliver on any of those proclamations and instead has released an album which is only good while expectations for the album were sky-high.

The deluxe edition of the album comes in at 17 tracks long and is 1.3 hours long. Ross has already released one of the best rap projects of the year in his Rich Forever mixtape so their were extremely high expectations for this album since Rich Forever was compiled of songs which didn’t make this album. The album is a good album, but is a letdown when compared to the past two projects from Ross, Rich Forever and Teflon Don. One complaint I have about the deluxe edition is both deluxe edition tracks are songs which although they have been slightly reworked have already been released on past free projects meaning that you are being charged for two songs which you could get for free by downloading Rich Forever. God Forgives, I Don’t is a consistent album with only one song which I consider a dud although the album has barely any huge hit songs. The majority of the songs on this album are just solid songs with only five or so songs which I would consider very good songs that I would still be listening to a few weeks from now. In my opinion Rich Forever was a better project than God Forgives, I Don’t as was Teflon Don. This album is filled with mindless rap mostly with Ross rapping about things he never did like selling drugs and being a billionare, but you come into this album expecting that mindless rapping from Ross. God Forgives, I Don’t is a flawed album from Rick Ross, but is still a solid album from the rapper.

God Forgives, I Don’t is not close to being the classic which Rick Ross proclaimed it to be, but it is still a good album which gets a light 3 1/2 stars.

My Top 5 Songs: Diced Pineapples, Touch’n You, Rich Forever, Triple Beam Dreams, So Sophisticated

Passion Pit: Gossamer Album Review

To purchase Gossamer from Passion Pit on iTunes click on the image above.

Gossamer is the sophomore album from alternative rock/pop group Passion Pit. The group gained huge praise for their debut album and the group’s combination of indie rock and electronic sounds. While the sophomore album from the group does not match up to their debut effort, it is still a solid album.

Gossamer has mostly an electronic sound to it with indie rock influences mixed in. The album is at its best on it’s more lighthearted fun pop tracks like Take A Walk and Constant Conversations rather than the completely electronic songs on this release. The album is 12 tracks long and reign in at 48 minutes of electronic pop sounds. The album has songs which show the brilliance which was found on the debut album from the group, but also had dissapointing tracks like I’ll Be Alright and Mirrored Sea. The sophomore album from Passion Pit is a solid album which fans of electronic or indie rock music should enjoy.

The sophomore album from Passion Pit is a solid follow up album to Manners and gets 3 stars.

My Top 5 Songs: Take A Walk, Carried Away, Constant Conversations, Love Is Greed, It’s Not My Fault I’m Happy

50 Cent: 5(Murder By Numbers) Album Review

To dowload the street album/mixtape 5(Murder By Numbers) from 50 Cent click on the image above.

5(Murder By Numbers) was supposed to be the final abum from 50 Cent with his current label Interscope, but instead it has now been released as a mixtape with his fifth studio album Street King Immortal set to be released in November. The mixtape is ten tracks long and it’s good that this project was not released as an album since it is just an average mixtape which doesn’t really stand out.

50 Cent got back on track with his previous two mixtapes which were both good projects, but this mixtape becomes the weakest of his last three projects and is not really anything special. The album starts off with a good sample on My Crown, but 50 Cent’s rapping doesn’t measure up to the track, although NY follows and is easily the best track on the mixtape. 50 Cent seems to just be going through the motions on this mixtape and seems to be making music for the sake of making music on this mixtape which never really has any songs which stand out or catch your attention.

5(Murder By Numbers) is just an average mixtape from a rapper who hasn’t had a hit since 2007 and hasn’t seemed to be able to evolve and step forward in the music industry. The first single from Street King Immortal sounds like a hit so hopefully with his upcoming album the rapper has gotten back on track, but for now his latest mixtape is nothing special and gets just 2 1/2 stars.

Top 5 Tracks: NY, Business Mind, Be My B*tch, Turn The Lights On, Money

Smashing Pumpkins: Oceania Album Review

To purchase Oceania from the Smashing Pumpkins click on the image above.

Oceania is the 8th studio album from alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins and is the group’s best album in a decade. The album is a continuation of the concept developed in the 2009 album from the group although with this album the concept is pulled off much better.

Oceania is 13 songs long and is a well rounded album from start to finish. Lead singer Billy Corgan did not bother with singles on this album since he wanted listeners to hear the album as one and not as individual tracks. The album is compelling and sees the band discovering a new sound and exploring a new territory in the group’s music. The songs on this release all have excellent production to match with Billy Corgan’s vocals. Many of the tracks have the same sound as many of the groups past hits, but with a current flare to them. The latest album from The Smashing Pumpkins embraces the groups past, but pushes forward to a new territory which is reimagining the band for a new generation. Oceania is a cohesive album which fans of the group or late alternative rock should all love.

The 8th studio album from The Smashing Pumpkins is the best from the group in a while and has an even infusion of new sounding and old school Smashing Pumpkins tracks. Oceania is the best alternative rock album I have heard so far and gets 4 stars.

Top 5 Songs: Violet Rays, The Celestials, One Diamond One Heart, Pin Wheels, Oceania

Listen to and read descriptions of all the tracks from Oceania below and if you like the album, make sure to support this alternative rock group by clicking here to download the album. Let me know your thoughts on the album and your favorite songs from the project in the comments.

50 Cent: New Day Remix Ft. Alicia Keys & Dr. Dre

New Day is the first single from 50 Cent’s upcoming final album with his record label and will be titled Street King Immortal with a release date set for November. The song is the best I have heard from 50 in a long time and has a great feature from both Dr. Dre and Alicia Keys.
