Thank You Camellia is the sophomore album from American Idol winner, Kris Allen. The sophomore album from Allen has a summer feel good pop vibe to it with catchy hooks and great vocals throughout the album. The pop singer wears his heart on his sleeve on his songs and leaves a feel good vibe and message with the listener. The album does not quite have a hit the size of Live Like We’re Dying like his previous album, but is still filled with great light hearted pop songs from track one through eleven. From listening to the album a few times there was not one song that I disliked and there were many songs that I loved.

The album opens up strong with the upbeat Better With You which sounds like an upbeat Jason Mraz song and starts the album off on a strong note. Vision Of Love comes next which features a good falsetto chorus which showcases the vocals of Allen. The summertime song My Weakness follows and just might be one of my favorite songs on the album. The song is catchy to begin with, but the whistles in the hook of the song sound amazing and combines well with the catchy hook and the rest of the song. The album then takes a turn away from the upbeat feel good music found on the beginning of the album in Out Alive which is about the pressures faced in a relationship. This somewhat darker tone continues with Monster which shows a different more dark side of Allen. The song features a rock chorus with a darker edge and some great harmonies. Blindfolded follows up with a massive chorus where Kris sings “If I was blindfolded, if my memory was erased… I’d still find you”. Teach Me How Love Goes is different from most songs on the album and is a romantic song which features great vocals and lyrics to go along with a calm and soothing guitar in the background. One of my top songs from the album follows in Rooftops. Rooftops is a soulful love song which features a great chorus, rhymes and a cool scratchy rhythm which creates a great song. Leave You Alone has a country feel to it and is another song about the hardships of relationships. Loves Me Not features Meiko which is the only feature on the album and is an indie duet which goes back and forth between Kris and Meiko and sounds good although the two crowd each other’s vocals at times on the song. You Got Away closes out the album with a more somber tone and is a piano ballad which is a great way to close out the album.

On his sophomore album Kris Allen improved upon what he did in his first album and manages to create a different sound on each song while still leaving his own sound on each track. Allen showcases his great vocals and songwriting ability on Thank You Camellia and gets 4 stars for his great sophomore album.

Curren$y: Chasing Papers Ft. Pharell

Curren$y has let loose another track off of his upcoming Stoned Immaculate album which drops on June 4th. The song Chasing Papers features Pharell and sounds great just like anything Pharell touches. The song is one of the best I have heard so far off the album from Spitta.

Chris Brown: Countdown

Chris Brown has released another track, Countdown in anticipation of the countdown towards his upcoming Fortune album. The song is great for a throw away song which won’t be featured on a release from Chris. The song is another R&B track from Brown and features a rap verse from Breezy as well. The beat on the song contains some dubstep which is my only complaint for the song which otherwise sounds good.

Ellie Goulding: High For This cover Ft. Xaphoon Jones

Ellie Goulding teams up with Chiddy Bang’s Xaphoon Jones for a great cover of The Weeknd’s, High For This. We haven’t heard anything lately from Ellie and the anticipation is high for her followup album to Lights. This cover of The Weeknd’s High For This is great and hopefully were able to hear some more new music from Ellie in the near future.

Matt Easton: Feelin’ Good (All The Time)

Matt Easton is an up and coming hip hop artist becoming known for his great choice in samples and his laid back rapping. All of this is present in this track which he made in celebration of gaining 3,000 facebook fans. With this track the college rapper uses a great sample and beat which compliments well with his laid back style of rap. Easton reminds me of Huey Mack and Hoodie Allen and I could see him gaining similar success in the future.

Flo Rida: Where Have You Been Remix Ft. Rihanna

Flo Rida has decided to remix Rihanna’s single, Where Have You Been. The remix is surprisingly good and features Flo Rida responding to Rihanna’s parts in the song and going back and forth.

Childish Gambino: Silk Pillow Ft. Beck

Childish Gambino (also known as Donald Glover from Community) has released the third track off of his upcoming mixtape, Royalty. Beck is featured on the song and the two mesh well with Gambino rapping over a signature Gambino beat.

This Is How I Feel is the fifth album from R&B/Soul singer Tank. Tank is a veteran in the R&B scene, but has yet to really breakthrough into the mainstream as a star in the R&B genre or in the music scene. Tank’s voice takes you back to the sounds heard on old school 80′s R&B and the album brings back the now mostly lost 80′s R&B sound.

Tank doesn’t really have a commercial sound to him that you would hear constantly on many radio stations, so I understand why he hasn’t become a star in the music scene. Even though this album may not gain Tank commercial success, the album will greatly please fans of R&B and fans of what Tank has previously released. The album is consistent throughout and is infused with some hip hop sounds mixed into some of the songs on the album. This Is How I Feel is one of Tank’s better releases, although it’s too bad that his music isn’t visible outside of R&B music.

Tank’s songwriting and singing abilities are great and are shown off on each track on the album in this album filled with sensual old school R&B music. The album features T.I., Kevin McCall, Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown and Chris Stephens. Almost all of the features are great and add to the song except for Busta Rhymes’s feature on Nowhere which was my least favorite track on the album. On the other hand T.I., Kevin McCall, Chris Stephens and Chris Brown all have great features on the album and are featured on three of my top five songs from the album.

With This Is How I Feel, Tank delivers yet another good R&B album, but with the album most of the songs sound extremely similar and it would have been nice to see Tank show more versatility and exit his comfort zone for a song or two on the project. This Is How I Feel  gets three stars for being a solid R&B album, although the sound of the album is repetitive to the material found on his previous releases.
